I tried doing this with my own eye once when I had just gotten back from the eye doctor. My pupils where huge but I couldn't focus my eyes well enough to get a focused shot with the camera.
I was going to put something in the pupil but couldn't come up with anything good. Your choice is excellent!
PS: Looks like you had something in your eye near the tear duc.
